Meet Evan

Founder & Principal, Autry Public Affairs

Evan Autry is the founder and principal of Autry Public Affairs. A change agent and respected facilitator, Autry leverages his extensive experience and vast network of contacts in state government and private sectors to deliver results for his clients. In 2023, Autry was named the #1 “Rising Lobby Star” by Capitol Inside.

Before founding Autry Public Affairs, Autry served as the top political advisor to the Texas Speaker of the House, managing a 6 million dollar budget that supported scores of members and candidates in their campaigns for public office. It was the most successful Speaker-led election cycle in Texas history.

Prior to joining the Texas Speaker, Autry lobbied for nearly a decade as director of legislative affairs for the rural electric cooperative association, during which time he became well-versed in utility, energy, and telecommunications policy. He helped pass critical legislation allowing cooperatives to deploy high-speed broadband fiber upon their electrical infrastructure to rural customers.

Autry managed political campaigns and worked in the Texas House before lobbying in the association world. He served as Legislative Director and Assistant Clerk to the Chairman of Energy Resources in the Texas House, where he helped pass landmark legislation to fix county and state roads damaged by increased oil and gas production. He also assisted in passing laws to strengthen public education, invest in cancer research, improve benefits for retired teachers, and enhance transparency in state agencies.

Autry has a unique perspective on how public policy is set and formed—from the motivations that generate policy initiatives to the currents that shape it during the legislative process. This perspective comes from his comprehensive experience both inside the halls of state government and out in the political field.

Autry holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Business Administration from Texas Tech University. He lives in Austin with his wife, Lindsey, and their two children.

Evan was named #1 “Rising Lobby Star” by Capitol Inside.
